Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in the village of Pajchanta – Ausangate
We’ll begin your enduro mountain biking vacation at our Cusco office (Zetas 400) at 9:30 a.m. There, we’ll set up your bike and provide you with all the necessary equipment. We’ll then head to the stunning Ausangate area, a 3-hour drive from the city. Upon arrival, we’ll stay with a local in a remote area of the Peruvian Andes, where we’ll enjoy local hospitality and a delicious Peruvian meal. After a hearty lunch, we’ll take a short hike or a leisurely bike ride to adjust to the altitude.
The trail we’ll cover is approximately 3 km and will help prepare our bodies for the day ahead. Upon our return, we’ll relax with a cup of hot tea, as the temperature at 4,267 m/14,000 ft is chilly. Dinner will be served at 7:00 p.m., followed by a rest stop or a dip in the Pacchanta hot springs.
Accommodation: Local guesthouse located at an altitude of 4,267 m/14,000 ft.
Meals included: Lunch & Dinner
Day 2: Ausangate, Glacial Lakes and Hot Springs
Wake up and shine! Today will be one of the most beautiful days cycling you’ve ever experienced!
We’ll wake up early for breakfast at 6:40 a.m. and depart at 7:30 a.m. to enjoy mountain biking in Ausangate. The hike to the trailhead will take about 15 to 20 minutes; since the route is at a high altitude, we’ll take it easy and enjoy the scenery. We’ll be accompanied by locals who will carry any additional equipment you may need and help push our bikes if necessary.
Today we’ll enjoy plenty of pedaling on varied terrain with ups and downs. After about an hour, we’ll encounter the serene emerald beauty of the first of many stunning glacial lakes of the day, with a massive glacier just beyond. As we continue, we’ll see alpine alpacas grazing on either side of us. During the descent, we’ll cycle past more glacial lakes and admire breathtaking views of majestic 20,000-foot snow-capped mountains.
We’ll conclude the trail at the Pajchanta hot springs, where we can relax before heading to lunch with our local family. After lunch, you’ll have time to relax or return to the hot springs. We’ll enjoy a light dinner, and then you can rest, relax, and appreciate the beauty of this sacred Inca mountain.
